32249, Is This a Waste of Life?

前日から話し合っていた「問い」は、このように決まりました。何か簡単に答えられない「問い」というものを探すのに時間を費やしてしまいました。32249は昨年2008年の一年間での日本の自殺者数の統計から。(先進国では1位･･･)　Wasteが「ゴミ」や「無駄にする」の両方の意味で用いられ、Lifeも「命」と訳すと仰々しいので、日本語では直訳せずに英語のみの記載にし、今日はその問いを実際の世界に配って問うてまわりました。

This is what we have came up with. We have spent too much time on making decision what "question" should be. The number 32249 is the number of people who committed suicide last year in Japan(the largest number in advanced countries). Since the word "waste" means both "rubbish" and "consuming away" and if "life" was tlanslated into Japanese "inochi", it would be too much, we decided to not tlanslate the sentence into Japanese. Then we actually handed out those cards and asked the question to people on street.
