Lecture by Kazumi Oguro ソトコト編集長、小黒一三さんレクチャー

ワークショップ七日目。昨日の中間講評をうけて、各グループとも夕方までそれぞれ作業。午後７時半からは、雑誌「ソトコト」編集長・小黒一三さんによるレクチャーが行われました。
レクチャーでは、創刊10周年を迎えたソトコトの表紙の画像を見せながら、毎号の特集と表紙ビジュアルの裏話をお話いただきつつ、後半は小黒編集長が20年前に設立したアフリカにあるホテルのお話や、ソトコト誌上で行っている「SMILE AFRICA」プロジェクトなどについてご紹介いただきました。このSMILE AFRICAプロジェクトは、読者から使わなくなった運動靴を譲ってもらい、アフリカの子供達にプレゼント。その靴を履いた子供達150人と大人たちも大勢参加したマラソン大会を現地アフリカで開催し、上位者に一年分の奨学金を贈るというもので、高橋尚子さんも参加されています。
The 7th day of workshop. Each group worked on their own reflecting the ideas they got from yesterday's intemediate prsentation.
The lecture by Oguro Kazumi, the chief editor of magazine "Sotokoto" started at 19:30. By showing the images of front pages, he firstly talked about each issue's special features and stories behind it. Then he talked about the hotel he established 20 years ago in Kenya and his project called "Smile Africa" which is giving away to children in Kenya used runnning shoes donated by readers of the magazine. He organized the marathon competition with 150 children with running shoes in Kenya and gave one year scholarship to higher-ranking winners.

個人的には、３年に一度、雑誌を売るための新たなキーワードが生まれる、というお話が非常に興味深かったです。たとえば創刊3年目にして確信したキーワードが「小さい／small」と「スロー／slow」。この二つのキーワードを得るまでに雑誌制作のために使ったお金がなんと26億円！と冗談交じりにおっしゃっていましたが、このキーワードこそが、雑誌を、そしてエコを広める起爆剤になったのでしょうね。ちなみに、創刊6年目のキーワードはご存じ「LOHAS（ロハス）」とのことでした。
He said that he has created a new kewyord in every 3 year to sell magazines better. The keywords he made after 3 years from it's first publication are "small" and "slow". The amount of money he spent to come up with these two keywords was 2.6 billion yen!






さて、いよいよワークショップも残すところ、あと３日。心身共に疲労もたまってきているかと思いますが、参加者のみなさんには、悔いのない最終プレゼンテーションを目指して、がんばっていただきたいと思います！
There are only 3 days left in the workshop. Everyone must be getting pretty tired physically and mentally. I hope they will be able to do their presentation by using their best ability with no regret!

Asking a Question問いを立てる

今日でセッションも5日目。デザイン、音楽、映像、パフォーマンス、アートなど様々な参加者がいるグループ２では、意見を交わすとどうしてもそれぞれの分野やバックボーンのやりやすさや慣れている手法などを話しがち。午前中は最終的な発表の形式の話ばかりになってしまったので、もう一度テーマに帰ろうということで、ゴミから転じたWasted Life人命の無駄遣い=自殺というトピックから、やはりこの問題には単純な答えや解決策がないので、概念を引き受けた「問いを立てる」(=asking a question)ことをするということになりました。というわけで朝10時から、夕方18時までやっぱりディスカッション。グループメンバーの一人は「辛いけど、これほどまで誰かと語り合うこともないよね。」ポツリと話してくれて、確かにそうだと思いました。　報告：瀧健太郎
It's the 5th day of workshop today. Since participants of this group has a variety of background such as design, music, film, performance and art, we tend to talk in a way we are used to in each field. In the morning, all we did was how we are going to do our final presentaion. So in the afternoon, we went back to talk about our theme. But since the theme "wasted life" came from the idea of suicide is too big to get an answer for it, we changed our theme to "asking a question". Then again we discussed about the theme all day from 10 o'clock in the morning till 6 o'clock in the afternoon. One of the members told me that this discussion is very hard, but I've never talked about one thing with anybody for such a long period of time.

Midturm Review 中間講評

ワークショップ六日目、今日は中間講評が行われました。各グループ、発表前はバタバタと準備に大わらわでしたが、それぞれの持ち味が活かされた、非常に興味深いプレゼンテーションでした。

First Tutorial チュートリアル

ワークショップ５日目、今日は、宋冬さん、クリスさん、TWS家村課長の３名が各スタジオをまわる形で、初めてのチュートリアルが行われました。各グループから、これまでにグループ内で話し合われたことや作業の現状と今後の方向性について発表があり、それについて、チューターから質問やアドバイスを行う、といった流れでした。
The 5th day of workshop. Today, Song Dong, Chris, Iemura visited each group's sudio and gave them tutorial to each group.

昨日までの４日間は、情報を得ることに重きを置いたプログラムだったこともあり、まだまだディスカッションが不足している印象のグループもありましたが、中にはしっかりと話し込んだ上でのアイディアが出ているグループも！


Group 1
Leader: 岩井優／Masaru Iwai
個性派揃いのグループ。明日は渋谷や上野でパフォーマンスや撮影を行う予定とのこと。
Each member has a quite unique character. Tomorrow thet will do a performance and shooting in Ueno and Shibuya.


Group 2
Leader: 瀧健太郎／Kentaro Taki
グループ分け直後から対話に比重を置き、「ゴミ」という言葉のもつ心理的側面を追求してテーマを見つけた様です。
After focusing mainly on discussion, they seemed to have found their theme by searching phycological meaning of word "waste".


Group 3
Leader: 松原慈／Megumi Matsubara
建築とファッションに関係する参加者の多いグループ。それぞれの視点が多岐に渡っている様子でした。
The group with many people who are engaged in architecure and fashion. Each of them seemed to have original opinions.


Group 4
Leader: 西尾聡志／Satoshi Nishio
キーワードとビジュアルのカテゴライズを終え、今後は参加者それぞれのフィールドで制作を進めるようです。
After finishing categorizing keywords and visuals, each of members will work on their works.


明日は、一柳慧さん、津村耕佑さん、渡邉康太郎さんも加わっての中間講評が行われます。正直なところ、今日のチュートリアルから１日でどんなプレゼンテーションができるのか、少々不安なところもありますが、もちろん楽しみでもあります。参加者のみなさん、がんばってくださいね！
Tomorrow there is going to be intermediate presentaions with tutors Toshi Ichiyanagi, Tsumura Kosuke and Kotaro Watanabe. I'm looking forwaed seeing what they will come up with.

discussion discussion discussion!話して、話して、話し合う！

今日の第二班は引き続きディスカッションが続きました。英語の"waste"(＝ゴミ)が、「ゴミ」の意とは別に「無駄にする」という意味もあり、そこから話が進んで、空間の無駄遣い、時間の無駄遣い、人生・命の無駄遣いなど、東京の都市としての現状などを含め、イギリス・ベトナム・日本の参加国の立場から話し合いが続きました。　グループ2：瀧健太郎

The discussions continued in group 2. They talked about wasting of space, time, life and what is happning in Tokyo as a metropolitan city since the word "waste" means also something else like "extravagance" beside "garbage".

今日まで続いたチュータープレゼンテーションやレクチャー、そしてアウトドアリサーチも一段落し、いよいよグループでの具体的な作業が始まります。画像は松原慈さん率いるグループのディスカッションの様子。今後のスケジューリングや、明後日の中間講評に向けての話し合いが行われています。

Excursion on "WASTE"ゴミにまつわる見学ツアー

　朝八時に集合して、中防埋め立て地、海の森公園予定地、品川区ゴミ処理場、湾岸のゴミ収集などを見学！。埋め立て地では今後50年使う予定を更に先延ばすためには分別やリサイクルによってゴミが出ないようにすることによって、60年、70年と使えると知り,今まで何となくしか知らなかったゴミの行方を知って、家でのゴミ出しの際にイメージすることができると思いました。
品川区のゴミ処理場では最新の設備を見て、スラグという溶解処理後の残留物が、アスファルトは舗道のタイルブロックなどに利用されているということを知りました。私たちの作り出す作品やプロジェクトにもリサイクルが必要なのかしら・・・とふと考えてしまいました。

We went to Tokyo Metropolitan Government Landfill Site、Sea of Forest、Waste disposal factory and Garbage collection point in bay by bus. The landfill site is planned to be used for the next 50 years, but we can extend the lengh of that time to 60 years or 70 years by segregation and recycling of rubbish. Now I know that where rubbish exactly goes after I dump it.
We found out that the fragment of dissolved rubbish is called "slag" and it is used in side walks. I thought that do we need to recycle our art works as well?

Lecture by Hiroya Tanaka & Yuusuke Karasawa 田中浩也＋柄沢祐輔 レクチャー

ワークショップ三日目。今日は昨日に引きつづき朝から参加者プレゼンテーションを行い、その後グループ分け発表が行われました。下のグループ・リーダー瀧さんからの投稿の通り、４つのグループに分かれて今後作業を行って行きます。

The 3rd day of workshop. After the rest of presentaion by participants was finished, participants were divided into 4 groups. Good luck everybody!

午後は、デザイン・エンジニアの田中浩也さんと建築家の柄沢祐輔さんによるレクチャーがおこなれました。前半はそれぞれ現在進行中の活動を紹介、その後お二人の対談、最後は参加者のみなさんとの質疑応答という流れでした。

お二人はNTT Inter Communication Center [ICC]のウェブ上でメタ・バース（インターネット上に構築される3D仮想空間の総称）に関する対談を行っており、その後、港区にあるエコプラザにてアドバンスト・デザインをテーマに対談を行っています。そのため今日のトークが三度目の正直ならぬ、三度目のトークイベント！
数ヶ月の間に数度の対話を繰り返し、思考の差違が明確になっている中でのトークということで、「自然」と「人工」という二つの言葉のとらえ方について等、お互いに平行線をたどる場面もありましたが、その差違を明確に提示できることこそが、クリエイターとして作品を生み出し続ける上での重要な要素の一つではないかと感じました。

今日のレクチャーは、直接的に「ゴミ」と結びつくものではありませんでしたが、今回リサーチをもとに制作をするWS参加者にとって、環境をどうとらえて表現を行っていくべきなのかの、姿勢または態度というものを学べたのではないでしょうか。

In the afternoon, the lecture by Hiroya Tanaka and Yuusuke Karasawa was hold. They have had "artist talk" together in the past twice, so this is their 3rd time to have a talk together. I thought that even though they have different opinions on definition of "nature" and "man-maid" since they had had several dialogues over the past few months, being able to present that difference is one of the most important quality creators should have.

Today's lecture was not directly connected to the idea of rubbish, but for the participants who will present their works based on their own research, they probably were able to learn attitude toward how to create something by grasping the concept of the environment.

Divide into 4 groupsグループ分け決定!

After presentations of all participants, tutor divided participants into 4 groups. Each groups is about 10-11 participants and has 4 leaders Masaru Iwai,Satoshi Nishio, Megumi Matsubara and me, K. Taki. My group is GroupII includes 6 people (downer photo) and first of all we needed white board to write up what we discussed, so we assemble to make it by using rubbish paper.(upper photo) For the first session, we told about difficulties among the countries or what we imagine when we listen the word "waste". reported by Kentaro Taki
